THE PROCEDURE IN DETAIL
Otoplasty: correcting prominent ears
Otoplasty involves pinning the ears closer to the head and reshaping their natural contours. The incision is made behind the ear, making the scar discreet. The procedure is suitable for both adults and children, generally starting around age 7, when the ear has almost reached its final size.
Earlobe repair
An earlobe torn or stretched by heavy earrings, or enlarged by a gauge, can be repaired with a short procedure under local anesthesia. Dr. Samuel Levy closes and reshapes the lobe to restore a natural appearance. Re-piercing is possible after healing, usually after a few weeks.
Good to know
Do I need to wear a headband after an otoplasty? Yes. A dressing is worn for the first few days, followed by a headband, especially at night, for a few weeks to protect the result. Dr. Levy will advise you on the appropriate duration.
Is the result permanent? Yes, in the vast majority of cases. The result is visible as soon as the dressing is removed and stabilizes within a few weeks.
Is the procedure painful? Discomfort is generally mild and easily managed with simple pain relievers.
